What is WBJEE?
WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam) is a state-level examination conducted by the WBJEEB (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board). WBJEE is primarily meant for students seeking admissions to B.Tech and B.Pharma courses at universities and technical institutions in the state of West Bengal.

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria
Candidates are deemed eligible for WBJEE if they fulfil the following criteria:
- Candidates must be a citizen of India
- The lower age limit for candidates as on December 31, 2020, is 17 years.Â
- There is no upper age limit for appearing in WBJEE 2021.
Please Note – Admission to the degree level Marine Engineering course has an upper age limit of 25 years as on December 31, 2020. The lower age limit is still 17 years.
Academic Qualifications
For the candidates to be deemed eligible, they must possess the following academic qualifications:
For Admission to Engineering Courses
- Candidates should have cleared their 10+2 exam (qualifying exam) with Physics and Mathematics, along with any one of the following as compulsory subjects:
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Biotechnology
- Computer Applications
- Computer Science
- Technical Vocational Subjects
- Candidates must secure at least 45% marks in the above three subjects taken together. SC, ST, PWD, OBC-A and OBC-B students have a 5% relaxation, hence need to secure just 40% marks.
- Candidates should have passed English in their qualifying exam (10+2) with at least 30% marks.
- The Board of the said qualifying exam must be recognized by the State or the Central Government.
- Only regular candidates are eligible.
For Admission to Pharmacy Courses
- Candidates should have cleared their 10+2 exam (qualifying exam) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Mathematics as compulsory subjects:
- Candidates must secure at least 45% marks in the above three subjects taken together. SC, ST, PWD, OBC-A and OBC-B students have a 5% relaxation, hence need to secure just 40% marks.
- Candidates should have passed English in their qualifying exam (10+2) with at least 30% marks.
- The Board of the said qualifying exam must be recognized by the State or the Central Government.
Please Note: Students who have secured their 10+2 qualification from non-class room-based and non-formal schooling systems such as National Institute of Open Schooling and similar institutions will not be eligible for admission to B.Pharm. Course.
WBJEE Application Form
The application window for WBJEE 2021 will begin shortly. The next WBJEE application form dates will be announced by the exam authority and the forms will be made available online.
WBJEE Application Form Correction Window
If the candidates need to make any changes in their application form after initial submission, they can do so in the WBJEE online application correction window. For the 2021 exam, the correction window will be opened once the registration dates are announced.
WBJEE – Important Documents
Candidates have to ensure that the following documents are readily available while filling out the WBJEE application form:
- Domicile certificate
- Category certificate
- Class 10 and 12 marks card
- Pass certificate
- Annual income proof of family
- JEE Main 2020 application number (if applicable)

WBJEE syllabus encompasses concepts from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. All the questions are in the form of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

WBJEE Exam Marking Scheme
The number of questions and marks awarded is as follows:

Total marks for the WBJEE exam is capped at 200. Each correct answer will yield 1 or 2 marks (depending on the category). If the question is not attempted, then no marks will be awarded. In the case of category 1 and 2 questions, selecting more than 1 option will be awarded negative marks.
Every wrong answer will yield:
- Category 1: -¼ (25% negative)
- Category 2: -¼ (25% negative)
- Category 3: A combination of a correct and wrong answer will fetch 2 marks while a partially correct response will fetch: 2 x (no. of correct options marked ÷ total number of correct options)
Mode of Answering – Important Instructions
Candidates will be required to mark their answers on OMR sheets, which will then be evaluated by Optical Mark Recognition Method. Hence, candidates are required to be very attentive while marking the answers.
- Each question will have four alternatives and candidates are required to darken the appropriate circle entirely in either blue or black ballpoint pen
- Any other kind of marking, such as a tick, a dot, a circle, white ink, or scratching, may lead to an erroneous or ambiguous reading of the response.
- In the case of such eventuality, WBJEEB will not be held accountable.
- Once the candidate marks a response in the OMR, it cannot be changed or erased. Hence, candidates must be sure of the answer before marking it. Moreover, do not put any stray mark on the options.
