What is MHT-CET?
Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET or MHCET) is a state-level test conducted by State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai for admission to B.Tech/B.E, B.Pharm and Pharm D in the state of Maharashtra.
In the year 2013, the examination was scrapped and the admission to Engineering courses was on the basis of JEE Main. However, the examination started again in the year 2016. From 2016, the merit list was prepared to give 50% weightage to Class 12 marks and 50% weightage to MHT-CET score.

Eligibility Criteria
The candidates who want to attempt MHT-CET must be an Indian citizen. There is no age limit to apply for MHT-CET.
Maharashtra State Candidature
The candidate can claim only one type of candidature from the following list;
Type-A | 1. Candidates who have passed the following examination from a recognised institution in the state of Maharashtra
2. The candidate whose domicile is Maharashtra and/ or is born in the state of Maharashtra |
Type-B | Candidates whose father or mother is domiciled in the state of Maharashtra and possess Domicile Certificate (For the candidate who does not come under Type-A) |
Type-C | The candidate whose father or mother is an employee of the Government of India or Government of India Undertaking and who has been posted and reported to duty in the state of Maharashtra before the last date of submission of Application Form. |
Type-D | The candidate whose father or mother is an employee or retired employee of the Government of Maharashtra or Government of Maharashtra Undertaking. |
Type-E | Candidates passing SSC and/or HSC examination from a recognised institution located in a disputed Maharashtra Karnataka Border Area and whose mother tongue is Marathi. |
All Indian Candidature
The candidates having Indian nationality are eligible under this category.
Minority Candidature
The candidate belonging to a particular linguistic or religious minority community from the state of Maharashtra.
Children of NRI / OCI / PIO
Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries
Foreign Nationals
(These types of candidature candidates are exempted from appearing for MHT-CET 2021)
Please Note:
(a) It is mandatory to appear for MHT-CET 2021 for candidates having Maharashtra state candidature and minority candidature seeking admission to BE/B. Tech. However, All India candidature candidates may or may not appear for MHT-CET 2021 as the score of JEE (Main) shall be preferred over MHT-CET 2021 for admission to B.E./B. Tech.
(b) It is mandatory to appear for MHT-CET 2021 for candidates belonging to Maharashtra state candidature, minority candidature and All India candidature seeking admission to B. Pharm/ Pharm D
Jammu and Kashmir Migrant Candidature
- The children of citizens who have moved to a different part of India or to a relatively safer part of Jammu and Kashmir after 1990 due to terrorist activities.
- The children of Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS) or Indian Foreign Services (IFS) officers posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
- The children of staff belonging to military or paramilitary forces transferred to Jammu and Kashmir to combat terrorist activities.
- The children of staff and officers of Jammu and Kashmir police engaged in combating terrorist activities.

The MHT-CET syllabus includes all the topics from Class 12 of Maharashtra State Board and a few topics from Class 11 syllabus.

MHT CET 2021 Exam Pattern
The questions will be based on the syllabus of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. MHT CET holds paper for 3 subjects that is Mathematics/Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
Candidates applying for a particular course are required to appear for a specified set of papers. Provided below is the distribution of subjects, questions, duration, and marks in various papers:
- Engineering candidates are required to attempt or appear for PCM.
- Pharmacy candidate are required to attempt or appear for PCM or PCB.
- PCM/PCB are divided into 2 Groups/Slots: In Group 1, candidates will get 90 minutes to complete Physics & Chemistry. In Group 2, candidates will get 90 minutes to complete Maths/Biology.

Exam Marking Scheme
The questions are based on the syllabus of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. There is 80% weightage given to Class 12 syllabus and remaining 20% weightage is given to Class 11 syllabus. The questions are all MCQs with four options. There is no negative marking.
